Bastard Fairies – “We’re All Going To Hell” from Memento Mori, 2007

I had the great pleasure of being led to this band by this poet. And it was this song that initially triggered my further interest. It’s irreverent folks, and since I am also irreverent, I felt that these guys could be my cup of tea.

Guess what?

I was right. This song is offensive . . . not to me . . . it takes a bit more than comically charged lyrics parodying religion in all its forms to offend me . . . or a bit less depending on your perspective . . . .

Regardless, this song is funny. The music is good. The lead singer’s voice has a high-pitched, slightly erotic tone and the band consistently backs her up with a solid pop-rock sound. In fact, they have something of a bubblegum flavor to their music. If it wasn’t for their sometimes politically charged lyrics, their amazing ability to step into “offensive” territory, and their clear counter-culture attitudes this band could be mixed in with the Top 40 set. This is a compliment by the way. I mean, they have the tone that masses would listen to if they could handle the subject matter, and I think that is a good thing. It tells me that art doesn’t have to be some fancy, unreachable thing. It can be just as fun as the popular stuff.

Best part about these guys, this fun song, and their 2007 album? All free for the taking.

  1. Hello: thanks for getting time of writing up this advice. I continuously seek to further more my idea of points. Regardless of whether I agree or disagree, I like advice. I keep in mind the old days once the only supply of information and facts was the library or the newspaper. They the two seem so old fashion. : )
